September 27, 2006 Edited by Robert T.
Francoeur and Raymond J. Noonan, The
Continuum Complete International Encyclopedia of Sexuality is the latest
incarnation of the academically lauded 4-volume International Encyclopedia of Sexuality
(IES), which has been widely praised
for its in-depth reports on all aspects of global sexual behaviour and beliefs. Reviewing the
text edition of the CCIES for the
American Psychological Association, PsychCRITIQUES contributor Michael
Stevens called the work, “a monumental reference book that makes a lasting
contribution to the descriptions and understanding of contemporary human
sexuality and relationships as manifested around the world.” The
World Association for Sexology has also endorsed the CCIES as “an important and unique
contribution to our understanding and appreciation of the rich variety of human
sexual attitudes, values, and behavior in cultures around the world.” CHOICE, the journal for academic
libraries, named it one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2004.
Now, Continuum
International Publishing Group has granted The Kinsey Institute a non-exclusive
license to post CCIES on its website
with open and free access for
all. With 28 country
chapters online and new postings scheduled through October 2007,
the online sexuality encyclopedia will feature research from 62
countries and places, compiled by 280 international sexuality experts. Web users will also be
encouraged to give their feedback and to make suggestions for future chapters
and revisions. The Kinsey
Institute welcomes this opportunity to provide a valuable international
reference resource directly to scholars and students, the media, and the
interested public worldwide. "We are committed to providing sexuality resource
materials, especially to those who have limited access to major libraries,"
says Jennifer Bass, Communications Director at The Kinsey
Institute. "Hosting the CCIES, one of the most informative and
comprehensive sources for the global study of sexual behavior, on our
website is a major step towards that goal.” We welcome your
comments on the CCIES at http://kinseyinstitute.org/ccies/fb.php |
