CCIES Has Won Several Awards and Many Positive Reviews

September 24, 2007--CCIES--The Continuum Complete International Encyclopedia of Sexuality--has been the recipient of a number of awards and many positive reviews in professional journals. Among them, it was named one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2004 by CHOICE, the American Library Association’s Association of College & Research Libraries’ journal for academic libraries. It also received the first Annual Book Award for 2005 by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). CCIES was the first and only book to have two extensive reviews published in the same issue of the Journal of Sex Research (Vol. 42, No. 1, February 2005).

Our Use of Scripting Language

January 29, 2007--Each Web page of CCIES at The Kinsey Institute uses some javascript code to perform some useful functions. One script allows users to open a window with a larger map of the country. Another allows users to click on the target icon following the section headings, which shows or hides the URL of that section, allowing users to see the direct link to that section for blogs or other citations. (For more information on this capability, see the Addendum 2006: Special Features of the Web Version OF CCIES.) The last script shows the date when the Web page was retrieved, as noted in the item below. Some newer browsers warn users that javascripting is found on pages being accessed and the possible dangers, allowing users the choice of whether to block them or to allow them to run. We assure you that these scripts do nothing more than to provide the services noted above. They are safe to run.

Retrieval Dates Appear on Each Web Page

September 4, 2006--Each Web page of CCIES at The Kinsey Institute includes the date on which you retrieved the document, just after the chapter URL in the introductory section of each file, similar to the way we have it above on this page. That way, when you print it or save it, you’ll have the date handy if your bibliographic style manual requires a retrieval date in your reference list. Downloaded PDF files, of course, are identical to the printed book, so the traditional bibliographic conventions apply, which you can find in the publication data of the front matter included in every PDF file. Be sure to read the chapter, How to Use This Encyclopedia, to find out about other special features available only in the Web version of CCIES.
