The Kinsey Institute's extensive collection of film and video includes over 12,000 items and encompasses both commercial and amateur productions.
The institute also releases informational videos on various sexuality topics.
Search the Kinsey Institute collectionsThe Kinsey Institute film archive consists of approximately 8000 film titles ranging in date from 1915 through the 1970s.
The collections contain a variety of formats including super 8, 8mm, 16mm and 35mm. The collections are grouped into the following categories: Historical Stag films; Peepshow; Sex Education; Animal Sex Behavior; Swedish Erotica and Art, Exploitation, and Pornographic feature films.

The film archive is available for qualified researchers for on-site viewing only. A two-week notice is required for viewing appointments.
In most cases, original prints are not available for viewing. Video access copies are available for many of these titles. For those currently not available on video, patrons may pay for a film to video transfer when copyright restrictions do not apply. The resulting access video copy can be viewed on site and remains the property of the Kinsey Institute.
Films are not loaned out for public or private viewings. In addition, the Kinsey Institute film archive is not a stock footage library and does not provide reproductions of film footage with the exception of some archival footage of Dr. Kinsey and other Institute for Sex Research/Kinsey Institute staff, which is available for special projects.

The Kinsey Institute video collection consists of approximately 4000 titles ranging in date from 1970 through today.
The collection contains a variety of formats including beta, videocassette and digital video disc. These videos cover the following areas: Heterosexual and Homosexual Erotica, Sex Education and Therapy, Transgender, and Sadomasochism/Bondage.
The majority of the collection is cataloged in The Kinsey Institute Library's catalog. A general search for sex education can be conducted as a keyword search such as "sex education and video$." By using the truncation symbol ($) the catalog will display records containing the words videocassette and videorecording. Search keyword and "DVD" for digital video disc format.
