Water damage closes the Kinsey Institute’s Morrison Hall

6/4/2016

Morrison Hall, home of the Kinsey Institute, experienced a water line break and flooding on Saturday, June 4.

Kinsey and IU libraries staff, with Indiana University facility operations personnel, took immediate action, and efforts to protect and preserve the collections are ongoing. The water damage occurred on the west side of the building, and did not directly affect the art storage areas and library stacks. Wet materials were sent directly to IU Libraries preservation for assessment, remediation and repair.

We are not able to accommodate visitors at this time, and the Kinsey library is closed until further notice. All Kinsey Institute staff are moving to temporary offices in Eigenmann Hall. You may contact us, as usual, by phone and email.

We are extremely grateful to staff and volunteers who stepped in at all hours to offer assistance. Our generous and knowledgeable colleagues and partners at Indiana University, including the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, IU Libraries and its Auxiliary Libraries Facility (ALF), Facility Operations, and Environmental Health and Safety, are working with us to ensure that we are up and running in due time.

10/1/2016 UPDATE

Thanks to the efficient efforts of Facility Operations staff and the IU Architect's Office, Kinsey Institute staff have returned to their offices in Morrison Hall.

Access to Morrison Hall remains restricted as some renovations are continuing during the fall semester.  Limited access to collections will be available to visiting scholars with prior arrangements.  We anticipate re-opening our library in the spring semester, and returning to normal access by summer 2017. In the meantime, scholars and students desiring to view Kinsey Institute materials are asked to contact us at kinsey@indiana.edu.
